Kapil Sharma lashes out at BJP IT Cell for campaign against Sony TV on Pulwama attack, detects attempts to divert attention .
Popular comedian and actor Kapil Sharma has lashed out at the members of the BJP IT Cell for launching social media campaign against Punjab Minister Navjot Singh Sidhu and Sony TV in the aftermath of the Pulwama terror attack. As many as 45 CRPF soldiers were killed when a suicide bomber belonging to Jaish-e-Mohammed terror outfit had blown himself up while carrying more than 350 kgs of explosives on Thursday last week. Reacting to the social media campaign by the BJP IT Cell, Kapil said, “I think this issue requires a tangible solution. Demands like ban him, remove him from the show. You tell me, if by removing Sidhu ji from my show will solve the (terrorism) issue, then Sidhu ji himself is so intelligent, he will quit the show of his own volition.”
Kapil then shifted his attack to BJP IT cell members, who had trended several hashtags against Sony TV, where The Kapil Sharma Show show is broadcast every weekend. The trending hashtags included #BoycottSidhu and #BoycottSonyTV among others. This led to reports confirming the news of Sidhu’s departure from The Kapil Sharma Show. Kapil said, “People are being misled by hashtags such as #BoycottSidhu or #BoycottKapilSharmaShow. Come on, let’s talk about real issues. We must talk about genuine issue and focus on them and not try and divert youths’ attention so that we are distracted from the real issue.” Soon after his comments went viral, the BJP IT Cell launched another hashtag #BoycottKapilSharma on Twitter, where it became a top trend in no time.
An overwhelming population on the social media had accused the BJP IT Cell for deliberately attacking Sidhu and Sony TV to hide the failure of the central government headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in stopping the murders of Indian soldiers in Jammu and Kashmir. The BJP IT Cell was helped by usual suspects in Indian media as channels such as Times Now and Republic TV too joined the campaign to attack Sidhu.
This was after Sidhu had reportedly said that it was not proper to blame the entire country for the sin of a handful of men. On Sunday, Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman too had blamed Sidhu’s hug with Pakistani army chief General Qamar Bajwa for the Pulwama attack. Reacting to Sitharaman’s attack, Sidhu had reminded her of the famous hug of Modi and former Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif in Lahore. He had also taken a dig at the defence minister and her party by posting the famous photo of NSA Ajit Doval accompanying Masood Azhar from an Indian jail to Kandahar in 1999. Azhar is now the head of jaish-e-Mohammed, which claimed the responsibility of the Pulwama attack.
